NEXT MEETING
Our next meeting will be held Sunday October 14th on the terrace of Corona Aero Partners at 5PM.

Margaret Nunally gave an update on the Airfaire which is Saturday, October 13, 2007 (9AM to 3 PM) ADMISSION IS FREE. We have a good team this year and everyone is eager to help make this event a success. We do have one more team meeting which is September 29 at (9AM) at Margaret’s hangar 1967 H. This is our final meeting before the Airfaire so if any of the team members have any concerns, now is the time to be present.
We always need volunteers on Friday, October 12, at 4 PM. If you can spare an hour please drop by. This is for set up for the Airfaire.

FROM THE PREZ
By Jim Nunally:
At our October meeting, the 2007 Corona Airfaire will be history. Planning started in 2006 for this event and I think this will be one of the best Airfaires in recent history. This year we have the rock wall, spider mount, paint ball, pony rides for the children, a very good Kid’s Zone assembled by Laurie Nolan, as well as fine food booths and other stuff. Tell all your friends and neighbors about the event, after all it’s FREE.
We still need your help. Anyone who has some time to help in any of the following events please stop by, no appointment needed. On Wednesday October 10 at 12:00 noon we are going to move any remaining planes (with the owner’s permission) from the city tie down area if the plane is not marked for display at the Airfaire. Friday October 12 in the afternoon we will assist in locating the sites for any early arriving vendors or airplanes arriving for display. We will have security on the east end of the field all night on October 12th. Saturday we will be needing help to give breaks to those with specific Airfaire jobs, such as parking incoming planes, attending the CPA booths, and in getting cold water to the Civil Air Patrol members, etc.
This is our (CPA) big event of the year and we should all work toward making it a success, defined as being a worthwhile community event rather than how much money we make, this year we will do both. Remember other airports have the city to coordinate their Airfaire or Air Show and they have big budgets to work from. We do not have that luxury and we can be proud that WE put on a pretty good event on our own.
Our next meeting will be October 14 at 5PM (the day after the Airfaire) and everyone should try to attend this meeting so we can openly discuss what we did right and what we did wrong. Remember at 10AM on October 14 we resume the monthly airplane display on the grass, complete with hot dogs this time.
CORONA MUNICIPAL AIRPORT
By Rich Brodeur, Airport Manager
Now is your chance to get rid of those unwanted metal and wire items; a Metal & Wire Only Container is located at the east end of the airport. Please do not throw trash in this container. This container will be removed from the airport on October 10, 2007.
Upcoming events:
Corona Airport Airfaire 2007 is fast approaching and thanks to the hard work and efforts of Terry Keiser, Margaret & Jim Nunally and Jon Wells, this year’s Airfaire, looks to be on target to be one of the best events ever.
Hangar Inspections will be conducted October 16, 2007 through October 19, 2007 Please check with your respective Master Lease Holder for the times and dates.
Please ensure that your hangar is in order and free of hazardous materials. If you do store oil or fuel, please make certain that it is in a sealed & spill proof container.
There are many fluids and products used in general aviation aircraft, and found in hangars that pose serious threats to the environment if not stored, used, and disposed of properly. Remember, it is ILLEGAL to dispose of used motor or aircraft oil, oil filters, or other hazardous fluids in the trash, pouring them down storm drains, or onto the ground.
Contaminated Aviation Gasoline
If, while pre-flighting your aircraft, gasoline contamination is discovered, the fuel must be handled correctly. Contaminated aviation gasoline should be stored in a fire-approved container. Take this material to a Hazardous Waste collection Facility for disposal.
Recycling Procedures :
Used Oil
* Use a proper oil drain container.
* Do not drain or store oil in a container that has contained other chemicals.
* Do not mix used motor oil with any other chemicals or fluids.
* Drain oil filters thoroughly before recycling them.
Safety : One aircraft incident this month.
Aircraft complaints : One reported this month…aircraft circling over homes/golf course near the 15 freeway Werrick & Temescal. A female caller stated that the aircraft circling for over an hour on Sunday 9/23 & Monday 9/24/2007.
Insurance: Please make sure your insurance is current and up to date and indicates The City of Corona and the Army Corps of Engineers as additionally insured. The Master Lease Holders have been issued a copy of all non-insured aircraft and will be taking corrective action to ensure 100% compliance to this ongoing process. If your aircraft is not operational and does not have insurance, you must submit a Declaration of Non-Operation Status form. Please contact your Master Lease Holder or the Airport Manager for this form.
New Aviation Business :
3 new Aviation businesses have requested approval to operate at Corona Municipal Airport:
* George’s Aircraft Upholstery and Detailing Services (at 1973 Aviation Drive )
* Temco Sky Network Services, a flight training school
* Gil Ross Avionics (will operate out of Fred Peters mid field office and hangar location)
All three businesses have been approved by City Council and are now awaiting formal authorization from the Army Corps of Engineers.
Please help me keep our Airport Safe and Neighborly! Thanks!!!!

From the CPA website-BulletinBoard (bb2.CoronaPilots.com), but of interest to long time AJO friends: One of Corona Airport’s founding fathers, Ziggy Wolff moved to Arizona some years ago. Ziggy stories abound around the airport and from his son Mark. Here is an update taken from an e-mail from Mark:
“..my dad had a bad episode two weeks ago . We don’t know what triggered this but my dad’s memory is going…He either had a TIA (small stroke)or heat exhaustion that has affected his mind. We took him to the doctor and they committed him after some tests, he stayed four days in the hospital. They said his heart is not good, about 30% what is normal for his age. That doctor gave him one year. But what the hell they have been wrong before.
He accepts phone calls and remembers all his friends very well. If you get a chance to call him he would like that. (928) 567-4983

User Fees
An FAA funding bill favorable to all of aviation moved much closer to reality late last week. The House of Representatives on Sept. 20 passed H.R.2881—the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2007. The very next day, the Senate Finance Committee significantly changed the tax provisions of S.1300, taking the Senate's version of the FAA funding bill much closer to something general aviation could support. "
HR 2881 has passed the house without user fees. The Senate version S1300 provides for acceptable increase in aviation fuel taxes firm 19.3 cents to 24.1 cents which is nearly the inflationary increase since the last tax increase, but it still contains the $25.00 user fees. If the user fees can not be eliminated before it reaches the floor and if it passes in this condition it will hopefully be eliminated in conference committee. If you have any influence with any Senators now is the time to let you feelings be known.

For you high wingers…… Columbia Aircraft has declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy and Cessna signed a letter of intent with Colombia to Acquire selected assets and certain liabilities. Thus it appears that a low wing single may be in the offering with a Cessna origin.

Subject: Airplane Lesson
If you want to go up, pull back on the yoke.
If you want to go down, pull back a little more.
If you want to go down real fast and spin around and around and around,
just keep pulling back.
