NEXT MEETING
Our next meeting will be held Sunday September 10th on the terrace of Corona Aero Partners at 5PM. We hope the weather
cools a little but there is usually a late afternoon breeze which makes for a very pleasant evening. Be sure to bring a dish to
share, a happy face and a desire to explore aviation.
The open house to show Classical Aircraft is, as usual, scheduled for the afternoon from 1 PM until meeting time, so plan to
show your airplane.
LAST MEETING
For such a beautiful evening we had a light turnout with only about twenty members present. The food was plentiful and of
good quality and the companionship was outstanding. Those who were in attendance certainly enjoyed the afternoon.
President Paul lead the meeting and praised the group for the excellent send off they gave to the Rose as she was about to leave
on her tour for Turner Classic Movies. Paul also reminded the group about the new tools CPA has acquired. Our tug is running
well and was used to drag the Rose down for the BBQ.
The items may be used by any CPA member a key can be obtained from Pat or Susan Brunner or Pete Johnson. A check out is
required for the use of the tug or the Scissor lift. Pat Brunner can arrange that if any member has a desire to use them.
CPA has rented a half hanger in building 1967 hanger N. If you have CPA items you would like to have stored contact one of
the officers.
Beth Brannigan gave a report on the airefaire and reminded everyone that the event is OCTOBER 7th. And that much work
needs to be done in the next month.. A really big day is planned. Some of the major events include:
Cessna Aircraft has promised a new airplane for display.
Hot air Balloons (Courtesy of Gypsy Flights, operated by CPA member Shane Reichardt's parents)
Just in Time Skydivers
Live Music (supplied by Fender Museum and Lucas Oil Products)
Corona Police Department K-9 units
A kid’s zone with lot’s of activity
There will be lots more so we need to do two things. First we need to plan on being there to support the day and secondly we
need to decide when and where we can help. Beth will need volunteers to run the entrance gate and ticket sales, to park
airplanes, for crowd control and clean up. If you can help, call Beth to volunteer to help that day. She will also need about five
people to help set up on Friday afternoon.
It was announced that tickets would go on sale in October for the Recovery party. The party will be held February 10th at the
Phoenix Club in Anaheim. Tickets will be fifty dollars each and will include the usual dinner and dance.
As a reminder, our membership dues are now due.

Events: AWSS (Automated Weather Sensor System is still operating under a TEST MODE. We are experiencing some
technical difficulties with the ZLA connection with the National Weather Service. The FAA representative stated that they are
working to remedy this problem and have installed a new modem to solve this problem. To access the weather information,
please use radio frequency 132.175. Back in May I was informed that the AWSS phone number (951) 340-4764 would be
temporary. I have since been informed by the FAA that this will be the permanent phone number. The FAA will advise me as
soon as these problems are repaired. Please contact me if you are experience any problems with this system.
Upcoming events: The Army Corps of Engineers plans to discuss the new haul road construction at the airport in late June or
July 2006, has been delayed due to contractor issues. As of this date, they have not stated when this discussion will take
place. As soon as I have a firm date, I will get the word to you through your Master Lease Holder.
August 22, 2006: A group of children from Tutor Time toured the airport. This group of future pilots really enjoyed watching
the aircraft land and take-off and especially liked sitting in the Cessna provided by Fly Corona.
Security: Dick and Ora Corcorran reported that someone stole a WACO radiator from their hangar. If any one has any
information regarding this theft, please contact them through Patrick Slatchevsky at Corona Air Ventures, (951) 737-1300 or
me at (951) 736-2289.
Safety: None for August
Insurance: Please make sure your insurance is current and up to date and indicates The City of Corona and the Army Corps of
Engineers as additionally insured. The Master Lease Holders have been issued a copy of all non-insured aircraft and will be
taking corrective action to ensure 100% compliance to this ongoing process. If your aircraft is not operational and does not
have insurance, you must submit a Declaration of Non-Operation Status form. Please contact your Master Lease Holder or the
Airport Manager for this form.
Repairs to the airport office trailer have been completed…stop by and check it out.
Please help me keep our Airport Safe and Neighborly! Thanks!!!!
FROM THE PREZ
By Paul Bricker
It has been a busy summer, and a lot has taken place since my last column. I’ve been driving Sandi and John to distraction,
trying to get me to write the column the past two months. My only excuse is that retirement is taking all my time.
The Corona 4th of July parade was lots of fun, and the combined CPA and 99’s entries were a hit. We had several people
approach us about flying in general, and at least one man was asking how we made the walking planes because he wanted to
make some for his grandchildren. We’ll do it again next year, and if you’d like to join in just keep an eye out. We start planning
early next year and we’d love your ideas and help.
During July CPA helped organize a send off for John Pappas and Rose, with John throwing a lunch in the area below the upper
deck for people on the airport. John has a contract with Turner Classic Movies to tour air shows for about 7 weeks with Rose,
and she was all polished and had TCM markings along both sides and the rudder. It was a very relaxed time, with a lot of
hanger flying and visiting old friends who came. John will be returning in September and Rose will be at the Air Faire, possibly
with the TCM display and outdoor theater operating.
Speaking of the Air Faire, it will be held 7 October this year, and planning for the 2006 event is well along. Beth from Fly
Corona accepted the responsibility for coordinating it this year, and she is ahead of last year at this time in sponsors, booths,
etc. Beth is studying to be an event planner and her interest and training in the subject is apparent. This month she gave a status
presentation at the monthly meeting, during which she announced several exciting new attractions. I know she is also working
on several other new items that she’s keeping under her hat until she gets them inked. She is looking for volunteers for set up,
tear down, and working the day of the fair. If you’d like to join the fun just let one of the CPA officers know, or stop by Fly
Corona and tell Beth.
We did elect officers in June, and Dorothe Balija is our new Vice President. The other officers agreed to serve another year, but
it’s important to continue to introduce new blood and ideas is the leadership. Start now considering if you could find time next
year to serve as an officer. Elections are only 9 months away!
With the attempted terror attack foiled in London the security level is up again, with airports being a particular focal point. As
you fly around the country to other airports be aware of the measures being taken and see what you can do to comply. At AJO
we need to be extra vigilant now, and the AOPA airport watch program is in place. To see what you can do go to the CPA web
site (www.coronapilots.org) for more information about this as well as other CPA related information. If you have any article
or information you believe should be added, or something you would like to contribute, please contact any officer or Shane
Reichardt, as webmaster. Shane is looking to people to contribute content to the web site.
PILOT PROFILE

We are happy to welcome Glen Mills, our newest member, to the CPA.
Glen has been flying for about 15 years. He is instrument rated and has 1250 total hours with 149 hours simulated instrument
and 53 hours actual (IMC) hours. Currently Glen is flying a 1972 Cessna 172 (N4343Q) hangared at Chino. He trained at
Corona and Sunrise at John Wayne.
Glen retired after 21 years from San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS) for Southern California Edison.
He has several hobbies and also enjoys flying radio controlled model airplanes.
The great state of Wisconsin claims Glen as their son. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and a BS & MS in
Nuclear Engineering. The warm sun of California beckoned Glen to leave the cold winters in Wisconsin in 1974. In 1976 he
moved to Mission Viejo and still calls it home. Glen flies about 100 hours a year. Most of his flying is done on Sunday morning
from Chino.
Glen, the CPA welcomes you.

NEWS YOU REALLY NEED
By John Elwell
Sad News: We lead off our news segment with a sad note. Harry Hubble, a long time user of the Corona Airport, passed away
on August 17th. His services were Thursday August 31st. Harry was well known among the old timers of the airport flying
Wacos and Fairchilds. We express our condolences to the family; Harry will be remembered by the aviation community.
Good News: George Sandy sent a note to the CPA: "Many thanks to the fellow members that called and sent cards during my
"down time" at Oshkosh. My heart has been repaired and I now have a ten year warranty and lots of room left for my good
friends at Corona."
Someone has done it again! Rich tells me that someone (probably not a member) left an open bucket of oil near the oil dump
station. Most people do not realize the environmental problems they cause when they do this. First, if discovered by the Corps
of Engineers or Fish and Wildlife before Rich can deal with it, that creates one more black mark which might be used to help
build a case to shut the airport down completely.
As stated, it is a fairly safe bet that whoever left this was not a member, thus will not read this plea. But, if any of you become
aware of any one even thinking of leaving oil, inform them of how much trouble they could cause.
If there is need to dispose of the oil when Rich is not there then the person can take it to a number of recycling stations, such
as Kragens and they will dump it at no cost.
Have you been traveling east lately? It will pay you to check out gas stops in advance. On a recent trip to Oshkosh a friend paid
$5.00 per gallon at Farmington but on a more southerly route that same pilot could have bought gas at Holbrook for around
$3.50. Before you leave, make a couple of phone calls or check out AOPA to see if they have a fuel price guide. It could save
you money. Sometimes price can vary on the same airport. Last spring a pilot at Pueblo did not realize that there was an
automated service on the field so he paid $3.90 off the truck when $3.40 was available at the automated station. CHECK AHEAD
