NEXT MEETING
Our next meeting will be held Sunday August 13th on the terrace of Corona Aero Partners at 5PM. We hope the weather cools a
little but there is usually a late afternoon breeze which makes for a very pleasant evening. Be sure to bring a dish to share, a happy
face and a desire to explore aviation.
The open house to show Classical Aircraft as usual is scheduled for the afternoon from 1 PM until meeting time so plan to show
your airplane.
LAST MEETING
July 9th started out as a very hot day and it appeared to affect the number of members willing to brave the elements and show up
for our monthly CPA meeting. 19 brave souls decided that it was not too hot to attend our meeting, and sure enough by evening
the day was very pleasant and we all had a good time.
President Paul reported on the Fourth of July parade entry of CPA and the 99's. He reported that the event was a real success and
that the event will be repeated for next year. He specifically thanked the 99's for their parade planes and Harvey Leyde for the use
of his Kit Fox for the parade.
The Boeing Company has donated a number of their surplus items to CPA including two Daihatsu small pickups, a tow motor and
a scissor lift. Members may check out and use these items once they become qualified to use them. A motion was passed to
authorize the rental of a half hanger for the storage of our equipment at the rate of $150 per month.
A motion was made to authorize the executive committee to accept gifts for CPA and to allow the committee to spend up to $250
to make repairs on equipment.
There was also agreement to pay Corona Aero Partners $25 per month for the clean up of their facilities which are used by CPA.
It was also reported that Tyler Fortney had to move out of state after the death of his mother. He had received a CPA scholarship
toward his pilot's license. Because he had left a motion was made to transfer the remaining $500 of that scholarship to Jeremy
Nolan.
Woodrow Anselen led a discussion on pattern safety. Too many pilots’ are not following good safety practices which could lead
to serious accidents. Pattern entry should always be made on the 45 degree angle to the runway. For runway 25 entry should be
made from the foothills and far enough west to make a clean and visible entry. Many pilots report they are on the 45 over Prado
Dam. Prado Dam is nearly a direct downwind entry. Crosswind entries should also be discouraged especially during busy days.

As a reminder, CPA membership dues are now due.

Events: New AWSS (Automated Weather Sensor System is still operating under a TEST MODE. To access the weather
information, please use radio frequency 132.175. Back in May I was informed that the AWSS phone number (951) 340-4764
would be temporary. I have since been informed by the FAA that this will be the permanent phone number. Please contact me if
you are experience any problems with this system.
Upcoming events: The Army Corps of Engineers plans to discuss the new haul road construction at the airport in late June or July
2006, has been delayed due to contractor issues. As soon as I have a firm date, I will get the word to you through your Master
Lease Holder.
The 4th of July parade was a great success thanks to the hard work and dedication of the 99’s woman’s aviation group and the
Corona Pilots Association. Their homemade aircraft were well received by all of the spectators. The Kit Fox owned by Harvey
Leyde was a big hit with the parade spectators. The fly over performed by the five corona based aircraft (4 Stearman and the
Ryan PT 22), added excitement to the opening ceremonies. Please accept my thanks and appreciation…to all, who contributed and
participated to make this event memorable.
Safety: None for July.
Security: One report of fuel stolen from a City Tie Down tenant this month. If you have any security issues to report, please
email me at Richard.brodeur@ci.corona.ca.us or call (951) 736-2289. After hours or for emergency call (951) 736-2334 police

Engineers as additionally insured. The Master Lease Holders have been issued a copy of all non-insured aircraft and will be taking
corrective action to ensure 100% compliance to this ongoing process. If your aircraft is not operational and does not have
insurance, you must submit a Declaration of Non-Operation Status form. Please contact your Master Lease Holder or the Airport
Manager for this form.
Repairs to the airport office trailer have been completed…stop by and check it out.
Please help me keep our Airport Safe and Neighborly! Thanks!!!!
NEWS YOU REALLY NEED
By John Elwell
If anyone has CPA items in their hangar, they are welcome to contact Pat or Susan Bruner to put them in the CPA hangar that we
are now paying for. This will keep all CPA items together so all CPA members can use them! Pat will make keys and give them to
the following people: Paul Bricker, president of CPA; Jim/Margaret Nunally, who are typically on the field; Pat and Susan will have
keys; and it was decided to leave a key with Joe Anderson and one with John Pappas. That way anyone who is a member (and
they must be members to be allowed to utilize the items --- if they are not members they are welcome to join) can access the
items. There will be a member list hanging in the hangar, just their names, so that whoever is letting them in can verify if they are
members before allowing access to the equipment.
In terms of the scissor lift, we will need to have only TRAINED people use this equipment. If you want to use it and are not
certified to use it, you will need to have someone who is, move it for you. (This was decided at the last meeting).
CPA extends our special thanks and appreciation to Procraft and to Corona Cylinder shop for their great help in getting our
donated equipment home. Steve loaned his trailer and Joe Anderson provided a large truck to haul our items from Long Beach to
the airport.
The Rose is going on tour. John Pappas will be taking the Rose DC-3 on tour for Turner Classic Movies. We hope he has a great
tour. A kick off BBQ was held Saturday July 29th and a good time was had by all. CPA was well represented as we helped
sponsor the event and did a lot of the work. Good luck to John Pappas and the Dream Flight crew. We will hit them up for a
program when they return.
Among the items we obtained from Boeing were some chairs. Some of them were placed at the bench and one is already missing.
We hope it was only borrowed and will be returned.
More real news: Fred Peters the owner of Corona Aero Partners and our host has acquired the master Lease hold interest of SVS
on the East end of the field and will operating those hangers tie downs and commercial buildings. Good luck to Fred in his new
endeavor
Don’t forget the Airfaire on October 7th.The committee is chaired by Beth Brannigan at Fly Corona. The big day will require lots
of help. If you are willing to devote a few hours that day contact Beth or Rich the airport Manager they will keep a list of those
willing to help. We need help with gate control, airplane parking, and Vendor assistance.
One more plea to our members: Please be sure that the Airport Manger has your emergency phone numbers on file. In the remote
chance that something bad happens to you on a flight and flight service is trying to get in touch with your family, the place they
normally start is by calling the Airport and try to get emergency numbers. Since time is often of the essence your emergency
numbers needs to be on file with the Airport .Manager

PILOT PROFILE
By Margaret Nunally
Joe (Joseph) Zammit was born and raised just north of Detroit, Michigan. He lived on a farm and went to a Christian school and
dreamed of becoming a commercial airline pilot.
Joe went to a Christian College in Pensacola, Florida for two years, and then enlisted in the Marine Corps and became a heavy
equipment operator. While overseas he received a BS degree in Computer Science. He married and had four children.
Now single again, he has been working as an IT Manager for a local Corona manufacturing company for the past 15 years.
Recently able to pursue his dream of flying, Joe became a private pilot in May 2006. He loves flying his first plane, a Mooney low
wing retractable gear with a 200 horsepower engine.
Joe has spent a lot of time during the past 10 years volunteering at orphanages and building houses in Mexico. Now he is aspiring
to fly for any purposeful opportunity and volunteer his plane to continue his volunteer commitments. He has found the Wings of
Faith pilot group, and intends to continue pursuing the ‘Help the Needy’ attitude. His intentions are to obtain his instrument rating
(for which he has already begun studying) and then to work at obtaining his multi-engine and commercial rating.
Joe, we welcome you and share your pride in all your accomplishments.
