NEXT MEETING
The next meeting will be held Sunday April 9th at 5:00 PM at the terrace at Corona Aero Partners’ place. After our meeting we will
share our food and have an evening of fellowship. Don’t forget to leave something in the drink kitty if you take liquid from the
refrigerator. Don’t forget that Sunday is also the show date for our antique aircraft.
LAST MEETING
The evening had all the earmarks of a hard winter evening, cold but not wet, nevertheless, there were over thirty noble aviation
enthusiasts who turned out for the evening and who shared in one of the best pot lucks we have had in some time.
A report was given concerning the upcoming Recovery Party. Ticket sales are good, but not as strong as we would like.
Airfaire committee reports indicate the affair is off to a good start. Beth Brannigan reported good sponsorship, and vendors are
making commitments.
CPA will have a float for the Corona 4th of July parade, and the 99s are considering joining in.
Paul Bricker reported that Mike Downs was interested in forming an Aviation Explorers Post at the airport.
Woodrow Anselen reported that due to a lack of time, he was forced to resign as an Airport AOPA coordinator.
Chris Petersen of the Corona High Aviators conveyed thanks for the January 28th event where the students were hosted. The
generosity of pilots and the time they spent with the students was greatly appreciated, and made a favorable impression on the
students. Tyler Ketanmerritt, our featured student, was present to provide an update on his progress as a student pilot.
The meeting was adjourned, followed as always by good food and good fellowship.
FROM THE PREZ
By Paul Bricker
By the time this is published the recovery party will have already taken place, so it’s a little late to encourage you to buy tickets. As
I write this 67 tickets had been sold, so it looks as if it will be a fun time. Unfortunately, due to planning several months ago, Joyce
and I are visiting our daughter in northern California and will be unable to attend. My travel planning this year also has me out of
town the 2nd Sunday of April, so I’ll miss the CPA meeting as well. I’m sure things will go well without me there, but I’ll miss the
time discussing the association and visiting with friends. Many of you stop by the hanger to see if I’ll ever be done with my
airplane, and I appreciate the break it gives me.
Next weekend the aviation club from Corona High School will be coming by to throw a BBQ for the people who hosted them and
their advisor in January. Come by and say high to these great kids. (Oh, by the way, they probably would appreciate another ride!)
We have committed to provide a float for 4th of July parade this year in Corona. It’s another way to feature the airport in a positive
light to the people who live in Corona. George Bougeokles has agreed to lead the effort, but I’m sure he would accept a hand. The
99’s plan to march in the parade also, in costumes that are reputed to have lots of power. Join in the fun, and attend the parade.
We’ve been making progress with the city and community, so please help keep up the momentum.
If you haven’t already, renew your airport gate card. They expired earlier, and that one evening this summer when you NEED to
get on the airport is the wrong time to try to get it renewed.
There are lots of changes going on at the airport. Much of the brush and debris in the drainage ditch (oops, creek channel) on the
south side of the field has been cleaned out. This should help prevent the “creek” from backing up during high flow periods and
flooding the grass area. Also, the buried services and mounting foundation for the Automated Surface Observation System (ASOS)
are in, and we should see the equipment moved into position soon. As I understand, there is an extensive test period before the
system is put into service, but it will be a great improvement for the airport. Imagine winds from the right direction and sky
measurements you can believe!
Summer will be here soon, so come out to the airport and get ready for a great flying weather year, without the need to shovel mud!
CORONA MUNICIPAL AIRPORT
By Rich Brodeur, Airport Manager
Events: The Army Corps of Engineers is planning to install a gravel haul road along the north side of Butterfield Road, adjacent to
the airport fence. This haul road is expected to have minimal impact on airport traffic. The positive side to this issue is that this
haul road can be utilized as an emergency evacuation route during a flood event.
On March 17, 2006, a Girl Scout group toured the airport, and had the opportunity to board the DC-3 (ROSE). They really
enjoyed the tour. Thank you to John Pappas for allowing this to happen. Rose was the highlight of their day!
The area TSA Representative (Transportation Security Administration) was originally scheduled to speak at the February 12 CPA
meeting, but had to cancel out due to another commitment. I have been asked to reschedule for a ‘to be announced’ future date.
South Ditch Cleaning: The CDF crews (California Department of Forestry) have completed the ditch clearing, and just in time; the
Birds are back in town.
Safety: No incidents reported for the month of March. Good Job to all! Gayle Grant, Teri Carr and all of you that perform the
daily FOD checks of the taxiways and runway; please accept my thanks and appreciation, on behalf of all of the pilots and myself,
for a job well done. Your efforts have helped to eliminate safety hazards at Corona Municipal Airport.
Security: Gate card renewals will continue through March 31, 2006. Anyone who does not renew their gate card by this date will
not be able to access the airport. New gate cards cost $15.00 and renewals cost $10.00. Office hours are 7 am to 4 pm, Tuesday
through Saturday. If you do not plan to use your gate card please return them to the Airport Manager's office.
Please report any security issues or gate problems to me immediately at (951) 736-2289 or email richard.brodeur@ci.corona.ca.us
(If it is after hours, please contact (951)736-2334 Corona Police Dispatch)
Insurance: Please make sure your insurance is current and up to date and indicates The City of Corona and the Army Corps of
Engineers as additionally insured. The Master Lease Holders have been issued a copy of all non-insured aircraft and will be taking
corrective action to ensure 100% compliance to this ongoing process. If your aircraft is not operational and does not have
insurance, you must submit a Declaration of Non-Operation Status form. Please contact your Master Lease Holder or the Airport
Manager for this form.
AWSS: Construction began on Jan 31, 2006 and is scheduled to be completed by March or April, 2006. It will be commissioned
in May, 2006.
Please help me keep our Airport Safe and Neighborly! Thanks!!!!
PILOT PROFILE
By Margaret Nunally
Jay Hogancamp is our newest pilot in the Corona Pilot’s Association. He obtained his license on December 8, 2005, and is the third
member of his family to become a pilot. He joins his Dad, who received his license in 1970, and an Aunt who got her license in
1980.
Jay has logged in over 90 hours, and considers that his best airplane trip was when he got to fly left seat in a Piper Seneca from
French Valley to Gillespie and back.
In 2001 Jay came to Corona Airport and got to know a lot of the friendly faces at the Bench. His new friends encouraged him,
gave him a few rides in their airplanes, and from then on he was ‘hooked’ on flying.
Jay has a Class A commercial driver’s license and makes his living driving a truck cross country, where he has traveled through 43
states and seen all the seasons.
The CPA congratulates Jay on his accomplishment, and we are all proud of you!

NEWS YOU REALLY NEED
By John Elwell
John and Sandi Guenther have been visiting the area in March. They were active members before moving to Salem Oregon. They
had so much fun they decided to stay for the Recovery Party. It was great to see them again.
Have you noticed AJO has had several new additions in nice airplanes based here? The airport is nearly back to normal and it is nice
to see new airplanes such as the Cirrus and another Pilatus.
Corona Air Ventures has had plumbers working on the restrooms at the fueling station and has improved the cleaning as well as
providing a portable potty for after hours. There are significant mechanical problems at this facility and the Nanda’s are working to
improve the situation.
Don't forget the PANCAKE BREAKFAST held the first Saturday of each month from 7 to 9 am at Bobs Café. Bob donates a
portion of the proceeds to CPA. The food is great and there is one more chance for fellowship
EDITORS NOTE: Let’s not forget that there are still plenty of the Airplanes of Corona Postcards left. You get a set of 16
different postcards for only $10.00. It would be fun to go around and get each pilot to sign their aircraft’s picture. Contact Susan
Brunner, get them at the Meeting or Aircraft Spruce, or contact any of the officers on the letterhead.
