Newsletter for November 1, 2004
NEXT MEETING
The next meeting will be held Sunday November14th at 5:00 PM on the terrace at Corona Aero Partners. The meeting is certain to contain a wrap up report of the 2004 Airfare so come and hear the news. We will also have a discussion about our support for Wings of Faith and their Christmas program. CPA has provided support for this effort by having our members bring unwrapped toys to our fall meetings and by providing planes and pilots to deliver toys to Indian reservations and other worthy children. Toys should be brought to the meeting on either or both months. Wings of faith will be looking for volunteers to fly the gifts to the various locations. We have been big supporters of this effort in the past and we hope to do even more this year.
On December 17, 20, 21, and 24th, from 9 a.m. until noon, members of the Corona Pilots Association are to be present at the Barnes & Noble off Cajalco in Corona, arriving 15 minutes early, to set up to do gift wrapping in their store. 100 PERCENT OF THE DONATIONS FOR THE GIFT WRAPPING ARE OURS! Barnes & Noble provides all the wrapping paper and tape, scissors and gift cards! We are to have 2 people from the organization present at all times, we are to dress in shirts that identify our organization, distribute flyers or brochures about the organization, and bring a container in which to collect donations. This can be a fundraiser for next years Airfare, so please call Susan at 735-6057 to volunteer at any of the above times.
If you need a CPA shirt, contact Yolanda at (951) 279-6520. You can also sign up at our regular meeting. After our meeting we will share our food and have an evening of fellowship. Don’t forget to leave something in the drink kitty if you take liquid from the refrigerator. Woody Anselen will present another safety video for our enjoyment and for learning, we certainly thank Woody for his effort.
LAST MEETING
For some reason attendance at the last meeting was the lowest since we started meeting at the terrace. President Shawnee says you can come back now, we won’t ask for volunteers for the Airfair for another year. Nevertheless, we had a good meeting. New members were in attendance including Steve and Mary Sharp. The Sharps had a booth next to CPA at the Airfair and not only joined CPA, but also took an ad for their business. Note the ad and get to know Steve and Mary. They own a Cessna 172 with a 180 HP engine and are understandably proud of their bird.
President Shawnie expressed her thanks for all of the help to put on the Airfair and she promised a critique of the event at the upcoming meeting so bring your praise and your concerns to this meeting so we can improve our fly in show.
Yolanda has agreed to be our marketing director which means she has a lot of CPA merchandise available. Have you noticed the attractive caps and jackets with the CPA logo. See Yolanda for more info.
It is time to start planning for the 2005 recovery party. We have lost our last year chair and the Mountain view Country Club had burned to the ground so we need a place to have our party and we need a new chair for the facility. President Shawnie issued a plea for someone to volunteer to put the party together and ask all to consider where we might have the party. More will be discussed at the November meeting.
FROM THE PREZ
By Shawnie Querner Thanks to all for your support and participation in making this year's Airfair another successful one! We seemed to have less people from the neighborhood, but the set-up and flow of the Airfair has been the best one yet -- more sound equipment for better coverage, better traffic control (both on the ground and in the air), happy vendors, and more things for the kids to see and do. We will be having a "post-Airfair" discussion of what to do for next year, what we can do to get a bigger crowd, and what we can do to make it more appealing for the future aviators. I will keep you apprised of the ideas from the meeting and hope to hear feedback from all of you!
We had six new members sign up at the Airfair and one new member signed up at the October meeting. I missed many of you in October (only about 20 people showed up), and you missed a great safety meeting put on by Woodrow Anselen regarding runway incursions. Get your calendar set for next month's meeting, as it will surely cover lots of new information, exciting upcoming events, and another wonderful safety meeting.
Again, thanks to everyone who participated in the Airfair. We surely could not have done the great job we did without everyone's assistance. See you at the meeting!

AIRPORT MANAGER
Recent events: Looks like October is going out like a lion -- 2 floods and power outages.
Beginning next week, November 1, 2004, the California Department of Forestry will be returning with a crew to complete the RPZ clearing at the west end of the airport. Public works crews will begin installing the rip/rap and construction of a ditch to divert water away from the hangars. Additionally, Parks and Community Services have requested bids to clear out the southwest water runoff area and I have requested that other diversionary canals be constructed to minimize flooding. If nothing else, this will buy us more reactionary time to evacuate hangars during severe flooding conditions. We will also clear a 60 foot opening to handle emergency evacuation of aircraft at the east end of the airport.
My thanks to everyone who assisted me during the floods and power outages. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!
We do have one problem that I cannot solve by myself. I am requesting your assistance to help me stop whoever it is that is dumping oil at the northwest end of the flood wall area. We found oil filters and it appears that someone has been doing this for some time. The Army Corps and Fish & Wildlife representatives were here and were not too pleased with this fact. I have assured them that I will do all in my power to prevent this from happening again. Please contact me if you have any information, regarding this issue, at (951) 736-2289. Hangar inspections were conducted and completed October 9th through October 15, 2004. No major problems to report, a letter has been forwarded to the Master Lease Holder’s which identifies hangars in need of corrective action. Some of the problems noted, include outdated fire extinguishers, some with too much clutter. Clutter problem can be remedied by participating in a CPA swap meet sale. If you are interested in participating in this swap meet please contact me ASAP!
New Flight School at AJO, Please join me in welcoming Mr. Dale Choppin to our team. He will be operating out of building #1973. Stop by and say hello!

NEWS YOU REALLY NEED
Daylight Savings time has come and gone and now it is getting dark much earlier. Remember you need three night landings to a full stop in the last ninety days at night in order to carry passengers so brush up your landing skills and be safe.
Cris Okutobunja at CrisAire has offered his pinch hitter course to spouses who fly. Cris offers this at no cost to CPA members, the user only has to pay for the airplane. See Cris for more details.
SPECIAL THANKS FOR Airfair HELP The following sponsors deserve our special thanks and our support. These businesses provided financial support for our recent Airfair. Without this support, the Airfair could not have been held. Take note of who they are, if you need their services be sure to give them a chance. If you come in contact with these great people be sure to tell them that you appreciate their support for the airport.

CPA Fly-INS
By Nick Nicolary
October was intended to be a visit to Santa Paula but once again the weather was a problem. Several members did show up with the hope the overcast would burn off enough to be able to go, but it just did not happen.
There are only two scheduled fly out left for the year. Borrego Springs is scheduled for November 13th we plan to launch about 10 to 10:30.
Plan on going with us for the final run on December 11th to Santa Inez which is a quaint town to visit.
Listed below are scheduled Fly Ins for the rest of the year.
Nov. 13-Borrego Springs
Dec. 11-Santa Inez
You can sign up at the Corona Air Venture fueling station or by calling Nick. If you don’t have access to a plane, call Nick and see if there are any empty seats. For any other information call Nick at (909) 317-0725
