December 2003

NEXT MEETING :

The next meeting will be SUNDAY DECEMBER 14th at the Pilots Loft of Corona Aero Partners at 6 PM . Come prepared for a stimulating business meeting followed by a great feast of food prepared by members. Remember to bring a dish to share, unless you are caught up in an event that makes you too busy to get something. There is always enough food so come and enjoy the food and fellowship.  Roger Brownlow from the Riverside GADO will present a program concerning TFR’s Don’t miss this informative meeting this information can help us all avoid being on the wrong side of the FAA.  Don’t forget, CPA is going to help Wings of Faith Collect toys for Christmas. We will be collecting at this meeting so bring your gifts and we will do the rest. Food and clothing will also be accepted. If you would like to help by flying some of the toys to the reservation, let President Dave or Dale Whinery know. All kinds of help is needed.  Remember we are still holding an open house to display our airplanes in the afternoon of our meetings. Take time to display your pride and joy. The public will enjoy it.

LAST MEETING :

Those who did not come to the monthly meeting missed a truly great program. Tri Motor Transport presented a video which was originally made for the early days of Coast to Coast air travel. The program praised the combined airplane and train trip which would take a passenger from coast to coast in the unbelievable time of 48 hours, in a machine which is not only entirely safe, but which also is the wave of the future. The entire air control system was quite different from the one we know today.  The owner and the flight crew not only presented an excellent program but they also brought the airplane and parked it by the Terrace during the meeting. The Bush Tri Motor is one of only two built from plans of the original Ford Tri Motor. The Corrugated metal exterior actually increases the lift of the airplane. A most interesting meeting.  SKYLARK flying club has invited the CPA to attend their Christmas Party. Anyone interested should contact Doris Brown @ 909.595.2773. Their party is December 21st 5:30-9:30p.m. @ Crystal Marquis in Whittier and the cost per person is $42.50 - Reservation deadline is December 14th.

TREASURER'S REPORT :

PREZ SAYS :

We certainly have had a full year and have accomplished quite a lot. We have signed many new members and now have 122 active members (according to my source). WOW! And we are still growing.  Thanks to Shawnie, we have incorporated a new look with a new logo and design. We have started our merchandising with jackets, caps, T-shirts, decals and patches to give us a presence at AJO. We have a new Merchandising Director, Mike Havlik. We have had many fly-ins thanks to our Fly-In Director Nick Nicolary, and are looking for many more in 2004. We had great fun at all the fly-ins. We have installed a CTAF monitoring at the ‘bench’ for all who wish that listening enjoyment. We have installed a sign at the airport entrance acknowledging the Corona Airport as the home of the Pilots Association and we have held our first annual fund-raiser airport BBQ. If you missed that one you missed an exceptional time and great food. We held a successful Airfare in October and are looking forward toward 2004.  We have more great things planned for 2004. See you all at the meetings.  I want to thank all of you who help to make the Corona Pilots Association what it is and can become by offering your time and expertise in all that we do. Without all the volunteers that support us we could not accomplish the things we do. THANK YOU ALL!  Carol and I will be in Michigan from December 19th – 29th visiting grandkids. We would like to take this opportunity to wish you and yours a blessed Holiday season and may God enrich and bless you. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!   Dave Kula

AIRPORT MANAGER :

SECURITY GATE CARD RENEWALS and INSURANCE VERIFICATION SET FOR JANUARY and FEBRUARY 2004  Every two years, the City of Corona does a fee study on all City of Corona fees. The most recent fee study was approved by the City Council in June 2003. As approved, starting in January 2004, airport security gate cards will be $12.00 for initial purchase and annual renewals will be $9.00 per card. Everyone who has a gate card and wants to keep it active/current will need to stop by the airport office between January 6 and February 28 to renew their gate cards. All cards that are not renewed by the end of February 2004 will be deleted from the system in March 2004.  You only need a gate card if you are entering or leaving the airport during the hours of darkness. If you or your wife / partner does not need a card, and you do not want to renew it, please turn it in at the airport office. If I am not there, just slide it through the mail slot in the door. If you do want to renew your card(s), please stop by Tuesday through Saturday, 7 am to 4 PM, between January 6 and February 28, with $9.00 per card, (check to the "City of Corona" or cash). Also, when renewing your card(s), bring a copy of your current aircraft insurance, showing the City of Corona and the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers as "additional insured" on your policy.  If you would like to renew your gate card by mail, please mail your check($9.00 per card), payable to the City of Corona, to Corona Municipal Airport, 815 W. Sixth Street, Corona, CA 92882-3238 and include a copy of your aircraft insurance, and also state the name(s) for whose gate cards you are renewing. If you would like confirmation that your card(s) have been renewed, include a stamped, self-addressed envelope. If renewing by mail, do not send in your gate card(s)!  On the bright side, airport thefts have diminished considerably due to the following: 1) gate card system 2) security surveillance cameras 3) police use of airport office for zone substation, and 4) police helicopter operations with HeliFlite.  If you have any questions or suggestions---please stop by the office, call me, or email... NEWS YOU REALLY NEED :

Mark your Calendar  The Recovery party has been changed to "Fly into Spring Dinner and Dance" and has moved the date to February 28. The committee has been working hard to make the social event of the year into an enjoyable evening. More details will be available in the next newsletter but the committee wants every one to get the date committed.

Runway lighting project  The lighting project should be starting before the middle of December. The delay was due to the fires in the area. The contractor has his office and home at Big Bear and he had to evacuate. During this time he was not able to work the jobs he had in progress and could not start new ones.  The contractor will start the trenching and replacing taxi lights first. Once he has everything going smoothly, the runway will be closed for 15 consecutive nights from 7 PM until 5:30 AM for the installation of the new runway lights.  Once the construction starts, be careful taxiing and be sure to check the NOTAMS and signs posted around the airport for closures at night.

TRAVELING CPA  Nick Nicolary is our official travel agent. He is trying to arrange group flights to other locations. If you are interested or if you have ideas contact Nick at (909) 737-0470.

California State Legislature  The State legislature has enacted legislation that will affect many of our members. For those who own and display classic and antique aircraft and who are exempt from personal property taxes if the aircraft is displayed twelve times per year, will be required to obtain proof that the aircraft has been displayed. The forms and other details are not known at this time but CPA will find out what is required and publish the results as soon as they become available.

Fred Peters continues his recovery and is on schedule. As you can see from the pictures of the CPA BBQ Fred came out for the BBQ in a wheel chair and he enjoyed being able to talk airplane to with his friends.
